Went with his father in 1710 to Westerly, Washington Co., RI. In 1743 hewent to Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ. He helped his father start thefirst Seventh Day Baptist church there in 1746. He served 6 years.

From the DAVIS FAMILY OF NJ, source unknown, from Guernsey MemorialLibrary, Norwich, NY - John was a miller in Middletown, NJ - John &Thomas of Middleton, Yeoman, gave to Thomas Cooper of Middletown a bondto fulfill agreement to give him possession of land lying on north sideof Claypit Creek. In 1733 Thomas Davis of Middletown released to JohnDavis of Middletown, 10 acres patented to Richard Davis, deceased. JohnClayton and Thomas Davis were among the first settlers of Old East Jerseyin 1700.
