John Terwilligar was a brother to our ancestor Jonathan Terwilligar, whomarried Freelove Brewer.
He married Sarah Cooper who later died in 1877. In 1878 he married hissecond wife Jane Ann Johnson, who was staying in the household of Johnand Sarah Terwilligar, at the time of the 1861 census of Ameliasburgh Twp.

"John Terwilligar came to the district in 1853. He was the firstblacksmith to reside here. His wife was Sarah Cooper, daughter of JohnCooper of Bloomfield. They had two daughters and one son; all werefaithful members of the Methodist Church and did much to help in everyway. Their son Obadiah left a large sum to the Superannuation Fund ofthe methodist Church. John Terwillegar and both his wives are at rest inthe Orser Burying Ground. Obadiah is buiried in Glenwood Cemetery,Picton."

"In 1851, John with his wife Sarah, moved to Ameliasburgh Twp.. He waslocated on (lot 77?) Con 4, and was the first blacksmith to locate in thetownship. They were members of the Episcopal Methodist church and, itwould seem, a strong supporter. Information shows him to have had a sonand two daughters. The son was Obadiah, born in 1842, who died in 1896,left a large sum to the Superannuation fund of the Methodist church.Seventh Town records show hs daughters to be Matura Jane and Victoria.
